A two day exhibition exploring the stereotyping of African Americans and Muslims looking specifically at how clothing can be perceived as a threat. In Hijabs & Hoodies, we encounter faces and fabrics that draw a range of reactions-depending on who views them. I designed the work as an active gallery, and were I invite black and Muslim visitors to participate in this portraiture series.
Crosslines: A Culture Lab on intersectionality was a two day interactive live exhibit highlighting the work of over 40 artists and scholars actively exploring the intersections in the contemporary web of American identity. The initiative was organized by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American center, where Hijabs & Hoodies was activated in the Washington DC area.
